OBHS Class of 2021 Parade

OBHS Class of 2021 students and parents.  Please see the message below from the Columbus Division of Police.  They are looking to provide yet another opportunity for the class on Thursday.  I have talked with Officer Paden for the last week and a half trying to finalize details.  I am very appreciative of what the CPD is offering and in charge of for our Bears.  I agree with Officer Paden that this would be an opportunity the seniors may never have again.

Here is Officer Paden's message:

Mr. Spinner,

As we’ve discussed in multiple phone conversations my name is Don Paden. I am a police officer with the Columbus Division of Police. Brandon Richardson is my nephew and is a student of the class of 2021 at Olentangy Berlin.  I know that many things have been put in place for the class of 2021 by you and the Senior advisors.  Things such as the class picture, 2 top golf outings, senior formal dinner, senior sunset ceremony, star lanes events, clap-out, cookouts, breakfasts and the senior carnival.  What special memories for this year's class!  However, I have one last idea.  When talking with my nephew, I came up with the idea of a parade, and we are more than happy to give the class of 2021 a lights and siren police escort.

I apologize for the late notice and due to a very tight time schedule it appears that this Thursday, May 20, 2021 is the best date. Since school will still be in session for the other 3 grades, we didn’t want to interfere or distract the other students and thought the Polaris area would be the best location for this parade. The students are welcome to decorate their vehicles, cheer, honk their horn etc. we just ask that everyone practices safety and good judgment. Parents, family, and friends are welcome to cheer on their students on the parade route. There are multiple locations along the route. I personally think it’s a great idea and it would be fun for everyone involved.  Pictures of the start point and ending location are below.

Meeting location:
IKEA 1900 Ikea Way Columbus, OH 43240
East lot of IKEA which is located between IKEA and Top Golf

Meeting date and time:
This Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 10:30 AM at IKEA's east parking lot.

Parade will start at 11 AM

Parade ending location:
Meijer 100 Polaris Pkwy Westerville, OH 43081 at the west parking lot.

The following will be the parade route for this Thursday, May 20, 2021 starting at 11 AM:

Right/West out of IKEA onto IKEA Way/Gemini Parkway to Polaris Parkway.

Left/South onto Polaris Parkway crossing over I-71.

Left from Polaris Parkway onto Polaris Woods Blvd.

Right onto Maxtown Crossing.

Immediate left onto the service road on the west side of Moo Moo Car Wash and into the Meijer located at 100 Polaris Pkwy, Westerville, OH 43081.

Again, I’m so sorry for the short notice on this offer but if we can make this happen, I know it would be an awesome memory! I believe this is a graduating class of approximately 350 students? The students are welcome to carpool or drive alone. We assume if there’s a good turnout there will be several vehicles involved and it shouldn’t be a problem. Again we want this to be a memorable and awesome experience for them.

Please let me know what you think and if the kids are interested in this. Have a great day!
