RECOGNITION OF THE CLASS OF 2021 WILL OCCUR IN THREE PHASES, OUTLINED BELOW:
PHASE 1: SENIOR SUNSET SALUTE
Please know that all four high schools will host an event for the entire senior class in their respective stadiums at 8 pm on Friday, May 21. Seniors are invited to attend in casual, school-appropriate attire, wearing caps and gowns Seniors should arrive at 7:40 pm and go to the stadium where you will line up under the bleachers. Seniors will process to their seats, and listen to traditional graduation remarks and speeches from their classmates and myself. The class gift will be presented; graduates will flip their tassel and conclude with recessing from their seats, on the track. New Information: We are excited to let you know that Olentangy Berlin High School invites two guests per graduate to attend this event. We request that families limit attendance to two guests per graduate. Also, families with extenuating circumstances may discuss special arrangements with me if needed. Tickets will not be issued for the event. Specific event details will follow in the coming weeks. This event will also be live-streamed for loved ones, friends, and community members to view online. We anticipate the Senior Sunset Salute to last approximately 40-45 minutes.
We believe we can hold this special event with limited guests in the stadium because of the short time duration of the Senior Sunset Salute and the ability to still execute the event if we experience any weather-related issues. Please understand, in the event of inclement weather, we will move students into the building for the program as a back-up-plan. Guests will not be able to enter the building if this is the case.
All remarks and recognition of individual students will be part of the virtual graduation ceremony (See Below).
PHASE 2: COMMENCEMENT WALK
COMMENCEMENT WALK ROUTE MAP pdf
All four high schools will host commencement walks on their school properties on May 22 or May 23 for graduating seniors. Seniors are invited to attend in graduation attire, wearing caps and gowns. Each graduating senior will arrive in a passenger vehicle, seated in the front passenger seat, and will require one driver to accompany them. Other family members are encouraged to ride in the car with the graduate and be part of the festivities. One car per student will be permitted. Families with multiple graduates ad extenuating circumstances may discuss special arrangements with me if needed. Staggered arrival times have been assigned for families to arrive on school property. Cars will follow a continuous, marked route with one stop in front of the school entrance. as cars approach the front entrance, students will exit the car, the graduate's name will be announced, they will receive a diploma cover and a professional photo will be taken with the principal. Graduates will flip their tassel and receive their diploma at the conclusion of their commencement walk before re-entering their car.
Family members will not be permitted to get out of the vehicle. The student will re-join their family in the car and follow the continuous route and exit the school property.
Radio Station WDLR (WDLR 96.7 FM or 1270 AM, online at www.my967.net or available as an app: search WDLR) will provide its sound system which the school will use to announce each student's name as they receive their diploma cover, with pomp and circumstance playing in the background. WDLR will broadcast live on their radio stations and on the school campus. Additionally, the commencement walk will be live-streamed on the district's website for loved ones, friends, and community members to view.
The commencement walk will take place on Saturday, May 22, at 9:00 AM, with the expectation that each event will last several hours. However, families should expect the experience to take approximately 30-40 minutes from arrival to departure.
To ensure continuous traffic flow, graduates have been assigned staggered arrival times by the last name, but will not need to assemble in alphabetical order. Arrival times have been assigned, beginning 30 minutes prior to the start of the event, as follows:
Berlin High School Saturday, May 22, 9 a.m.
Last Name: A-C: 8:30 am
Last Name: D-G: 9 am
Last Name: H-K: 9:20 am
Last Name: L-N: 9:40 am
Last Name: O-R: 10:00 am
Last Name: S-T: 10:20 am

We ask that each car clearly have the name of the student on the passenger side of the windshield "this is very important". This will allow us to connect the student's previously requested special handshake staff member with the graduate during the commencement walk. We encourage loved ones, friends, and community members to tune into WDLR (WDLR 96.7 FM or 1270 AM, online at www.my967.net or available as an app: search WDLR) and/or follow our Livestream on our website to join our celebration.
PHASE 3: VIRTUAL GRADUATION
A virtual Graduation ceremony will be shared on the day of the commencement walks for each school. al speeches and remarks have been pre-recorded. Each graduate's name will be announced regardless of whether or not they participated in the Senior Sunset Salute or commencement walk, and each student will have a dedicated moment of recognition in the program. The virtual graduation ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, and be available for on-demand viewing through May 31. During the commencement walk, your family will receive two copies of the commencement program to follow along with the virtual graduation ceremony.
Our goal is to create a meaningful and memorable ceremony that can be shared with our students, staff, families, and community that illustrates how proud we are of our graduates' accomplishments.
We are pleased to celebrate the Class of 2021 and are committed to recognize and highlight all they have to offer our world. As with anything we do at Olentangy Berlin High School, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. I know that I speak for the entire staff when I say that everyone at 3140 Berlin Station Road is so excited to share in the upcoming ceremonies with our graduates!
