Summer School

Summer School is ideal for Olentangy students entering grades 9-12 looking to catch up on credits or accelerate their learning schedule. The program will be held June 3 - July 12, 2024. Classes will be virtual.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Summer School registration will be available in the Parent PowerSchool Portal beginning March 1, 2024 and will be open for registering through May 28.

PowerSchool is the only way to register for summer school.
Counselors cannot register for students.
The portal will be open for registration March 1 – May 28.

Enroll for Remediation: Has your counselor or teacher told you that you will earn a D or an F in a core/graduation requirement course? Olentangy Schools offers summer school to students who need to pass a course for credit recovery.

Enroll to Accelerate Learning: These courses are rigorous and at an accelerated pace (80-120 hours per course is recommended). Students should keep in mind that they will need to set a schedule to keep pace and finish on time as you are choosing your courses.

Please have a conversation with your counselor before enrolling. It will be very difficult for you to move to a higher-level course by taking the lower level course that is really just designed for credit recovery.

COURSES OFFERED

APEX Courses: Algebra I, Geometry, Intro to Algebra II, Algebra II, Algebra III, Pre-Calculus, Economics, Personal Finance, CP Earth and Space, World History, U.S. Government, and U.S. History.
Schoology Courses: Schoology Courses offered are College Prep English 9, 10, 11 and 12; Physical Education and Health.
All classes are virtual.
Cost is $210.00 per course.
Orientation for SCHOOLOGY courses will be at the discretion of the instructor. Instructor may call, email, or schedule a virtual meeting.
For APEX courses, the orientation will be a pre-recorded video and the link will be emailed along with login information by 5pm on June 3rd. This is not a live event, so it can be viewed at your convenience.
Grades will be reported to students on their official Olentangy transcript.

SUMMER SCHOOL "DO'S"

Remember that your Summer School instructor will contact you on or before June 3rd with all the information you'll need to start the course. They will use the phone numbers and emails you provide on your PowerSchool registration document. Please wait to hear from your instructor. All orientations are virtual.
Check with your counselor for Summer School recommendations.
Check your paid receipt. It will be automatically generated once you pay in your Parent Portal. It will be delivered to the email you furnish on the registration form. If you don’t pay and receive a receipt, you are NOT signed up. If you close out of the registration form before finishing and paying, you are NOT signed up.
Remember to sign up for state test(s) if you wish to take them during the summer. The dates/times are: 6/25 CP English 10, 6/26 Alg I and Geometry, 6/27 US History & US Gov’t. All will be given at Shanahan Middle School. The tests are offered again in late fall at the high schools if you do not take them during the summer following your course. Check with your counselor for the late fall dates. If you sign up for the summer tests, your receipt will indicate the day, location, time and subject.
Check with TRECA summer school if you miss the Olentangy deadline of May 28. Web search TRECA Summer School for more information. TRECA courses will transfer back to Olentangy for credit.
Be aware that there are no refunds. A monetary credit can be transferred to a student’s school fees account if students let the Summer School instructor or office know. The drop deadline is June 14 at noon. Monetary credits can also be transferred to another family member.

Remember that your grade will be reported back to your home high school and will show in Power School when grades are posted on July 26. If you are unhappy with your grade, you may retake the course during the regular school year or next summer.

SUMMER SCHOOL "DON'TS"

Don’t assume a counselor registered you for Summer School. Counselors will recommend Summer School for students for remediation purposes, or a student may wish to take a course for advancement, but the student and parent/caregiver must register. If you are taking the course for advancement please check with your counselor or your gifted teacher.
Don’t register if you are not a rising 9-12 grade student. Students will not be permitted to sign up for a summer school course unless they have specific permission from a counselor or gifted teacher.
Don’t forget that the last day to register is May 28 at noon.
Don’t forget that the last day to drop a class/withdraw for a refund is June 14 at noon.
Don’t forget to make note of your instructor’s email address and any other way to contact them. The Summer School office cannot help students with course-related questions such as resetting a test, etc.
